Dedicate yourself to a time during the day to practice and commit to it.
Practice all material you are to work on at different tempos with a metronome, drum machine or sequencer.
Distance = Volume. Practice all material at different stick heights.
Listen for feel, tendency to rush or drag, creativity, taste, balance etc. Remember, the tape doesn't lie.
Be creative! Once you have learned an exercise, try to explore other areas such as beat displacement or meter modulation, to come up with new ideas.
